Building Renovation Technique: Anti-spalling Method
A new renovation proposal to preserve the beautiful exterior tile finish
After securely fixing the tiles and mortar layers with special dedicated anchors, this method enhances the surface with an acrylic resin coating reinforced with special fibers to prevent tile detachment while maintaining the existing tile design. It is recommended for cases where deterioration of exterior wall tiles is a concern, or as a preventive measure before the risk of detachment arises.
Exterior Wall Tile Spalling Prevention Method: EverGuard
Exterior Wall Tile Spalling Prevention Method Pursuing Aesthetic Preservation
The exterior wall tile finish is widely adopted in many buildings for its durability and luxurious appearance. However, spalling accidents have become a significant concern. While various spalling prevention methods exist, many of them involve covering or concealing existing tiles, requiring additional tiling after construction to restore the texture and design of the tiles. This spalling prevention method focuses on preserving texture to solve these issues.
The mechanism of spalling prevention
- EVERGUARD -
Exterior buildings with tiled finishes can lead to detachment accidents of tiles or mortar layers as deterioration progresses. Below are the patterns of detachment and the mechanism of the EverGuard method.
The feature of EverGuard
- EVERGUARD -
It is a spalling prevention method for buildings with tile finishes, such as existing buildings, that prioritizes the preservation of aesthetic appeal. It maintains the appearance design to the maximum extent possible with a highly transparent resin film.
Integration of tiles with high transparency resin coating
The EverGuard method fixes the tile and mortar layers to the structure using special dedicated anchors and covers the tile surface with a highly transparent acrylic resin, reinforced with special fibers to enhance coating strength. This method prevents detachment while maintaining the aesthetic design of existing tiles.
A special resin that is resistant to discoloration
We use 'EverGuard F' as the main material, a fiber-reinforced transparent acrylic resin that combines special fibers with highly weather-resistant and discoloration-resistant acrylic resin to enhance resin strength. This coating preserves the appearance of the tiles while maintaining their aesthetic appeal over a long period.
Texture-creating topcoat
The main issue with using high-coverage organic materials is the surface gloss. EverGuard addresses this by offering three types of topcoats with different levels of sheen, allowing for a texture that closely matches the existing tiles.
Stain-resistant topcoat
The hydrophilic topcoat with self-cleaning effects washes away dust and dirt with rain, making it difficult for rain streaks to remain and helping to maintain the aesthetic appearance. Additionally, its main component is acrylic silicone resin, which offers excellent weather resistance.
Installation by licensed contractors
The spalling prevention layer formed during on-site construction heavily depends on the skill of the workers. The EverGuard method emphasizes the importance of spalling prevention by ensuring a responsible construction system carried out by licensed contractors.
